Crazy Bridal Parties

Slightly Wacky Bridal Showers

For something out of the ordinary, why not get together with a couple of friends of the bride and groom-to-be, and organise a Reverse bridal shower

I helped organise a very successful party where the roles were reversed. We had a bunch of girlfriends over to someone's place, where we drank beer, ate steak or sausage sandwiches with coleslaw. Very basic, blokey fare! Some of us dressed up in boots, jeans and men's shirts. We even had a blow-up doll :-) The bride-to-be wore a plastic ball and chain around her ankle.

The men met up at another venue - which was luckily within walking distance. They had previously been sent invitations that asked them to arrive to celebrate with Mr X, and to bring a practical household gift, and a favourite recipe. This would probably have seemed a bit strange to a bunch of very male country blokes, because we didn't let them all in on the fact that it was a reverse party. I sewed the most hideous toilet doll for my husband to take! He was a bit puzzled, but went along with it.

I would have loved to have seen my husband's face, when he turned up for a 'bloke's' party, to see the groom-to-be sitting on the couch, sipping what appeared to be tea, and wearing a dress. They drank beer from dainty teacups, ate delicate sandwiches and cakes. We did put a female in charge of the men's party, to make sure that they all read their recipes out, and opened the gifts 'properly' for maximum effect. She said that she nearly killed herself laughing at the reactions of these men.

Anyway, after an hour or two, we all met up and had a great party and laugh together. It was certainly a party to remember - people still talk about it!
